I've been in a seafood craze lately and by lately, I mean forever. Not fish so much, but shellfish and mollusks? Yes, please. This little recipe is one you'll find in almost every Chinese or seafood buffet out there -mussels baked in a dynamite sauce! I always felt like there had to be cheese in this dish, but it's actually all mayo! Not your everyday Best Foods mayo, but Japanese Kewpie Mayo! They were exactly what I expected them to be, yum!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div>
We used this recipe<a href="http://elmomonster.blogspot.com/2005/07/baked-mussels-in-dynamite-sauce.html"> here</a>, but swapped Sriracha for a little cayenne pepper, which was still delicious. They're pretty quick to make and really hit that mussels craving!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So the boyfriend came down to San Diego to spend the weekend with me for my birthday and we were suddenly hit with a big burger craving. We yelped and BABS popped up. BABS, or<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/babs-san-diego"> Bao's Amazing Burgers and Sandwiches</a>, is a tiny place in an overcrowded plaza where the burgers melt and fall apart in your hands. The patties are packed with different cheeses depending on your order and they ooze everywhere. It's definitely a heavy, heavy meal, but if you're craving some greasy chow and you're not afraid to get your hands dirty, this is the place. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We got the Parmesan Swiss and the Texas BBQ Burgers with a side of criss-cross and regular seasoned fries. I really liked their seasoned fries for some reason. They had a subtle flavor that was a little more interesting than the straight salt you usually get from seasoned fries. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There's a huge selection of delicious sounding items and I'll probably be back the next time I need my fill of fatty food. </div>

<b>Hi! Hello!</b></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial; font-size: small; text-align: center;">
It's literally been over a year since I've posted in this space, but I'm going to casually ignore that. Let's get right back to it! I moved down to San Diego a couple months ago for work and I have to admit I've spent every spare second of my free time eating. San Diego is a huge city and there are little food gems hidden in every corner. Luckily for me, I have a few friends down here to show me the ropes. Here's a list of the places we've ventured to so far with photos of all our munchies! </div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">*mostly from my instagram since my camera dreams have yet to pan out. Insert sad face here. </span></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial; text-align: center;">
<b>1. Carnita's Snack Shack</b></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-family: arial; text-align: left;">
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
This is literally a shack hidden over on University Avenue, but you can't miss it. Seriously, there's a giant wooden pig on top of it. Carnita's is a pretty popular place so there's usually a line. We didn't wait too long to order though. There's seating around the back of the shack and it's got kind of a casual hipster vibe to it. We were starving when we got there so maybe that made the food seem even better, but either way it was delicious!</div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIfwN2EaUyx8DHy88LNppul8Lj_6L7AxScZxty31timWflubO-k1_5O4eYEhF0pJfdOcTA3cIqNshCkqzuFtqj7ChB_3hi9w6wu_Jk5Ykg6ajQR5xkeg8tP0h3ZKVJBtsdQcOF5Qiu6oE/s1600/IMG_20140703_234602.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIfwN2EaUyx8DHy88LNppul8Lj_6L7AxScZxty31timWflubO-k1_5O4eYEhF0pJfdOcTA3cIqNshCkqzuFtqj7ChB_3hi9w6wu_Jk5Ykg6ajQR5xkeg8tP0h3ZKVJBtsdQcOF5Qiu6oE/s1600/IMG_20140703_234602.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
The boypren and I split a BLT and Carnita's steak sandwich with a side of fries. The fries came with homemade bacon ketchup, which I wasn't a particularly huge fan but everyone else seemed to dig it. If you go, definitely get the steak sandwich. It was amazing. Our friends ordered another steak sandwich and the Triple Threat, which is this giant tower of deep-fried heart-attack, I mean meat. </div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>2. Board & Brew</b></div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
It was a sandwich-y weekend, I guess. 'Cause the next morning we went to Board & Brew and grabbed more sandwiches for lunch. I didn't love these as much, but that may have something to do with the veggies. I'm not a veggies girl. Keep those tomatoes and onions away fom me please. We got the Turkado and the Baja Grilled Chicken sandwich with a side of potato salad. Board & Brew has this special sauce with their sandwiches, it's sweet with a teensy bit of a tang. The baja with a little bit of the special sauce was my favorite. Alan ate too much of the Turkado. Really, he had to take a nap in the parking lot after. Not sure if I would make the trip back, especially since finding parking was an absolute disaster, but it was the Fourth of July, so who knows?</div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZdAmrXeZ0IEyK9m2qsuQyrAOODSSAXVSJVpkdrPiUKg6yT4zfvubSpCmT3gcw1FTnSBPYyvx28CyzB0TIdkhR_vjfrBJTXh_fqdUmYiQnl3hanKLZC2SL9DQMRcSmHeu5ETtahaJs_lo/s1600/IMG_20140805_222911.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZdAmrXeZ0IEyK9m2qsuQyrAOODSSAXVSJVpkdrPiUKg6yT4zfvubSpCmT3gcw1FTnSBPYyvx28CyzB0TIdkhR_vjfrBJTXh_fqdUmYiQnl3hanKLZC2SL9DQMRcSmHeu5ETtahaJs_lo/s1600/IMG_20140805_222911.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>3.Fig Tree Cafe</b></div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
We were actually trying to go to Hash House a Go Go for brunch, but the wait was ridiculous so we rounded the corner and went down the street to Fig Tree Cafe. It was the world's longest brunch. I'm not even sure what took so long, but in between the wait to be seated, for food and dessert...we were there for about four hours. Not even kidding, we had to refill our parking meter twice. The food was okay. I wish there was more fruit in my stuffed french toast. Most of them were canned, too. Alan got the meat loaf hash, which he said was a little too pesto-y. All-in-all, it wasn't a bad brunch spot, but Hash House a Go Go is still on the to-eat list! </div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnE-u6bQwrvRfxK8j13AzS2gJKSQfT2UeWB49G4sskUl4HBtNXUgHRE0tFN66U8E1mm8Ul3_bIPsqhqFMY0pM-_CZCvYniTInElWKIsoTpy5RaLJgtD9u4ad_IlOFPwOgZqFytU7lQmco/s1600/IMG_20140705_125421.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnE-u6bQwrvRfxK8j13AzS2gJKSQfT2UeWB49G4sskUl4HBtNXUgHRE0tFN66U8E1mm8Ul3_bIPsqhqFMY0pM-_CZCvYniTInElWKIsoTpy5RaLJgtD9u4ad_IlOFPwOgZqFytU7lQmco/s1600/IMG_20140705_125421.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="font-size: small; text-align: center;">
That's it for now, but I'll be back with more later! :) Stick around for more foods!</div>

I'm not going to lie, the past couple of weeks have been fatty ones. I've gone out for more times than my wallet would like, but no regrets, food was delicious! There aren't too many decent Vietnamese food places around campus, but this pho hit the spot pretty well. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the most part, I'm a veggie hater. But one of the few vegetables I do love to eat is bok choy, otherwise known as a type of Chinese cabbage. This is just one simple way you can make it. Here's what you'll need!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 head of bok choy</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2-3 tbsp of oyster sauce</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 flat tsp of cornstarch</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2 cloves of garlic</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Salt</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwUWmhcMqu9Xntx4zbe4E5sl66Es4sGKWJEan2ROvuqMiPmjnYinDSyyFpndre741EHnIzfSzNJrja9gdCctdFS5cZPPbIIILGAEn1xhRAmuWG6-dGinXHFXsUKlN1VteJJqEfdVqYIUI/s1600/bokchoy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwUWmhcMqu9Xntx4zbe4E5sl66Es4sGKWJEan2ROvuqMiPmjnYinDSyyFpndre741EHnIzfSzNJrja9gdCctdFS5cZPPbIIILGAEn1xhRAmuWG6-dGinXHFXsUKlN1VteJJqEfdVqYIUI/s1600/bokchoy.png" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There are multiple types of bok choy and they all have a slightly different taste. I'm using the large white ones. If you're going to use baby bok choy or the smaller green variation, you'll probably want to use more than just one bunch. Now, start by slicing up your bok choy into smaller sections. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bring a pot of water to boil. Bok choy cooks pretty fast and can have an unpleasantly mushy texture if you over-boil it. So just drop in your bok choy, stir it around for a two to three minutes, then immediately dump it into a strainer and rinse it with cold water to stop the cooking. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXX9805G_Pb69Po-YOME8U3Ih_XnyzEOD5Clwbcr-wrBw_hDVF71xMXi8Ft-wA_gN8eSm-x-F0rrKsmBuszAdJVgZc4s6j9qEoQzy_D1ZbVanq8MeORn27vHjlSVHNqb_zKFhcz4ofTFM/s1600/bokchoy1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXX9805G_Pb69Po-YOME8U3Ih_XnyzEOD5Clwbcr-wrBw_hDVF71xMXi8Ft-wA_gN8eSm-x-F0rrKsmBuszAdJVgZc4s6j9qEoQzy_D1ZbVanq8MeORn27vHjlSVHNqb_zKFhcz4ofTFM/s1600/bokchoy1.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Before stir-frying, finely mince your garlic cloves and throw them onto the pan with a teensy bit of olive oil until they crisp into a golden-brown. Take it off the heat into another container. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now, toss your bok choy back onto the pan, keeping it on a medium to low heat. Sprinkle in a pinch of salt over the whole batch and mix in the oyster sauce. The cornstarch is optional, I just prefer the sauce to be a bit thicker. So if you want to, dissolve the cornstarch in a few ounces of water and drizzle it over your bok choy. Sprinkle your fried garlic on top and you're ready to eat!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I served mine alongside a couple slices of salmon, but that recipe will have to wait for another day!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy eating! :) </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We decided on a whim to make pancakes one morning for breakfast! The pancakes were made from scratch, but to be honest, I can't remember the recipe we used, ha! Halfway through pancaking, I realized we didn't have syrup and scrapped together some honey cinnamon syrup. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1/2 Cup of Honey</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1/3 Cup of Butter</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cinnamon</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Melt the honey together with the butter, either on the stove or in the microwave. Then mix in as much cinnamon as you want! I'm not a huge honey fan, so I'll probably be sticking to the standard maple. But it wasn't bad in a pinch. I could see it being pretty tasty with nutella and bananas. Give it a try, maybe it's just your cup of tea! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This is a super simple recipe and it's pretty quick to make! Don't worry though, it's still delicious.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's what you'll need: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Chicken steak (Chicken breast or any other sort of chicken filet will do, too)</li>
<li>All-Purpose Flour</li>
<li>Salt and Pepper</li>
<li>Paprika</li>
<li>Garlic Powder</li>
<li>Rosemary</li>
<li>Parsley</li>
<li>Oregano</li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Feel free to add any other herbs you want! The second time I made this I think I added basil or sage to it as well. It's really up to your own preferences. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Start by thin, shallow cuts into the chicken steak on both sides. Then rub salt and pepper over the whole thing, making sure to get into the cuts. Separately, pour out enough flour to coat the whole chicken. Mix in a bit of garlic powder, a tablespoon or so of paprika, and as much of all the herbs as you'd like. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Lastly, cover the chicken on both sides with the flour mixture, making sure it breads evenly. Then just throw it on a the stove with a teensy bit of olive oil for a few minutes each side and enjoy!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmIDW86EMHr6JV4MIL5iGZ_pjEzLIe3KX5AKhkDB5zsqt1BMabKCiAFyYCJgxYL-Yx29_Ldb_mzO3yxHMFTL7VDtPe5Rjn-98OB0AqHl4JoVc5kbc6JL7oa1BbtJeraGe2FgULpVCKDTI/s1600/chicken1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmIDW86EMHr6JV4MIL5iGZ_pjEzLIe3KX5AKhkDB5zsqt1BMabKCiAFyYCJgxYL-Yx29_Ldb_mzO3yxHMFTL7VDtPe5Rjn-98OB0AqHl4JoVc5kbc6JL7oa1BbtJeraGe2FgULpVCKDTI/s1600/chicken1.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I served mine with garlic mashed potatoes with chives and a side of lettuce 'cause everyone needs their veggies! (I hate them though, I really do). </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Happy Eating! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The roomies and I decided to try baking cookies from scratch on a whim one day and these delicious oatmeal craisin cookies are what popped out. We have a giant pack of rolled oats that we picked up from Costco so we figured we could get rid of some by making oatmeal cookies. We pretty much used <a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/326836/chewy-oatmeal-raisin-cookies"><i>this</i></a> Martha Stewart recipe, but swapped out raisins for craisins because they're just plain tastier. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's what you'll need:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>1 1/2 Cups Rolled Oats</li>
<li>1/2 Cup Flour</li>
<li>1/2 Cup Craisins</li>
<li>1/2 tsp. Baking Soda</li>
<li>1/2 tsp. Salt</li>
<li>6 tbsp. Unsalted Butter</li>
<li>1/2 Cup Packed Dark Brown Sugar</li>
<li>1/4 Cup Granulated Sugar</li>
<li>1 Large Egg</li>
<li>1 tsp. Vanilla Extract</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If all you have is just regular slated butter like we did, don't add the extra 1/2 tsp. of salt and instead add extra sugar to offset the saltiness! </div>
<br />

Preheat the oven to 350. You're going to mix the ingredients in two separate bowls. In one, mix together the oats, flour, craisins, baking soda and salt. In the second, mix the sugar and butter until it's creamy. Then mix in the vanilla and egg. Once the second mixture is completely blended, slowly add in the dry mix in your first bowl. </div>

And voila! Oatmeal craisin cookies! We added a scoop of vanilla between ours to make ice cream cookie sandwiches. It wasn't the healthiest of breakfasts, but I'm not complaining. :)</div>

Two years of college have come and gone in no time at all. I'm on the verge of turning twenty, have finally moved out to my first apartment and am starting to find a different kind of normal to my life. And with that, I feel like it's time for a fresh start in my attempts to blog. This space is reserved for the few things I love most-family, friends and food.</div>
